It seems like everyone knows that slavery still exists in the world, even in America. I’m sure we also know about those sex slaves—the girls who are raped every day by maybe 40 men? But we seem to just put that sort of information on the back burner, pretend it doesn’t exist.
I think it’s funny that my fellow feminists on Tumblr do not see this as a major feminist issue. While we sit here and discuss how appalling a few song lyrics are, there is a demand in every state for enslaved, drugged, and tortured girls to fuck. Think of the millions of slaves. Now think of who’s paying to sleep with them. Apparently, there are LOTS of people out there who think it’s okay to take away a woman’s right to live in order for her to pleasure him. This is the ultimate objectification, far worse than the kinds we complain about in the media. Not to say that it’s not important to fight against misrepresentation, but holy shit, you guys! Women are being enslaved, and it’s kind of our fault for hearing about it and not doing enough.
Imagine if all the social media websites took this issue into their hands. Spread the facts, the outrage. I doubt slavery (at least in America) would be such an issue.
I say we make sex slavery a major issue of Feminism. Women were not made to be property or accessories of men. Women deserve to be treated with dignity, and if you don’t agree with this then you’re not a true feminist.
